Medication Alert Services

Improving patient safety by reducing and/or eliminating medication prescribing errors is one of the benefits of implementing Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE). All too frequently, the pop-up alerts associated with the adoption of a CPOE system are generated excessively, are often seen as having limited clinical purpose and because they slow down the order entry process, and are frustrating to the order entry provider. This is commonly referred to as “Alert Fatigue.” The frustrations associated with it can become a very significant obstacle to widespread clinical adoption of a CPOE system. Alert Fatigue is a concern that has been voiced by many healthcare providers who have implemented, or intend to implement, CPOE.

Healthcare Performance Group, Inc. (HPG) has developed a 5 phase project process that enables a healthcare provider to effectively implement medication alerts meeting their specific requirements. The implementation of this project includes proprietary tools, developed by HPG, that generate high volume updates to the Cerner Millennium Multum® Medication Alert Database in a fraction of the time required of manual updates. These tools have been developed to help our customers eliminate Alert Fatigue and implement streamlined, efficient, and customer specific ordering processes.
